از روش­های کنترل آلودگی فلزات سنگین، استفاده از کانی­های رسی به عنوان جاذب است. در این پژوهش، ویژگی­های ریزساختاری کانی­های سپیولیت و ورمی­کولیت پس از جذب عناصر نیکل و روی بررسی شد. جهت انجام آزمایش جذب، از چهار تیمار ورمی­کولیت، ورمی­کولیت + خاک شنی، سپیولیت و سپیولیت + خاک شنی با شش غلظت 0، 0001/0، 0005/0، 005/0، 01/0 و 05/0 مولار محلول روی و نیکل استفاده شد. نتایج هم­دماها­ی جذب نشان داد که عنصر نیکل، با معادله لانگ­مویر و عنصر روی با معادله فروندلیچ­ برازش بهتری داشتند. افزون بر آن، عنصر نیکل در رس سپیولیت و عنصر روی در رس ورمی­کولیت با جذب بیشتری همراه بودند. نتایج پراش پرتوی ایکس­ نشان داد که با افزایش غلظت آلاینده روی و نیکل، صفحات کانی از هم فاصله گرفته و در نتیجه ساختار کانی دچار تغییر شده است. به­طور کلی نتیجه­گیری می­شود که هر دو رس نقش بسیاری در جذب آلاینده­ها داشته و ریزساختار آنها عامل اصلی این سازوکار است.
