نوار ماگمایی نئوژنی قوچان- اسفراین (در شمال نوار افیولیتی سبزوار) دربردارنده گنبد­های آداکیتی نئوژن با طیف ترکیبی آندزیت تا ریولیت است که آشکارا سنگ­های رسوبی ژوراسیک، مجموعه آتشفشانی- رسوبی ائوسن، سنگ­های رسوبی میوسن و حتی گاهی سنگ­جوش پلیوسن را قطع کرده­اند. اصلی­ترین کانی­های سازنده سنگ­های گنبدها را پلاژیوکلاز و آمفیبول تشکیل می­دهند که در زمینه­ای از بافت­های متنوع فلسیتی پورفیری، ریزسنگ پورفیری، غربالی، جریانی و گلومروپورفیری قرار دارند. سرشت آهکی-قلیایی و متاآلومین تا پرآلومین، غنی­شدگی از عناصر سنگ­دوست بزرگ یون (LILE) و عناصرخاکی نادر سنگین (LREE) و تهی­شدگی از عناصر خاکی نادر سنگین (HREE) و Y در نمودارهای بهنجار شده به ترکیب گوشته اولیه و کندریت، به همراه مقادیر بالای Na2O، Al2O3، Sr، نسبت بالای Sr/Y، نسبت پایین K2O/Na2O و تهی­شدگی از عناصر با پتانسیل یونی بالا (HFSE) در این سنگ­ها از نشانه­های بارز ماگماهای آداکیتی کمان­های فرورانش جوان است. به­علاوه، این سنگ­ها دارای نسبت­های ایزوتوپی آغازین 87Sr/86Sr (70390/0 تا 70562/0) و Nd(t) (86/0- تا 98/4+) هستند که نشان دهنده خاستگاه آنها از ذوب­بخشی ورقه اقیانوسی همراه با آلودگی مواد پوسته­ای است. سن جایگزینی این سنگ­ها در نوار ماگمایی قوچان - اسفراین از طریق سن­سنجی U-Pb بر زیرکن­های جدا شده 24/0± 83/17 تا 34/0± 50/8 میلیون سال به دست آمده است. نتایج نشان می­دهند که ماگمای مولد آن­ها از ذوب­بخشی ورقه اقیانوسی فرورانده شده گارنت آمفیبولیتی/ اکلوژیتی اقیانوس نئوتتیس سبزوار به زیر سنگ­کره قاره­ای بینالود در مرحله پس از برخورد پدید آمده است. وجود بیگانه سنگ­ها، خوردگی و عدم تعادل شیمیایی درشت­بلورها، بافت غربالی در پلاژیوکلازها و نسبت­های ایزوتوپی Sr-Nd این سنگ­ها، نشانگر عملکرد فرآیندهای تبلور جدایشی همراه با هضم و آلایش پوسته­ای(AFC) در تشکیل و تکامل سنگ­های آذرین این نوار است.
