منطقه اکتشافی زردکوه در استان سیستان و بلوچستان و در جنوب­شرق ایرانشهر قراردارد. این منطقه در مرز حوضه پیش­کمانی مکران با پهنه فلیش شرق ایران واقع است. زمین­شناسی منطقه بیشتر شامل سنگ­های آتشفشانی-رسوبی کرتاسه پسین بوده که توده پیروکسن­دیوریتی تا مونزودیوریتی در آن­ها نفوذ کرده است. توده دیوریتی دربردارنده رگچه­های کوارتز- سولفید فراوان با سیمای به شدت دگرسان شده است. کانی­سازی در این منطقه بیشتر همراه با دگرسانی­های سیلیسی و آرژیلیک همراه با پهنه گسترده گوسان دیده می­شود که با دگرسانی پروپلیتیک دربرگرفته شده­است. کانی­های اولیه پیریت و کالکوپیریت و کانی­های ثانویه شامل گوتیت، هماتیت، لیمونیت، ژاروسیت، کالکوسیت، کوولیت، مالاکیت و آزوریت هستند که در قالب بافت رگچه­ای، افشان، گل کلمی و جانشینی دیده می­شود. بیشترین مقدار طلا 1/1 گرم بر تن، مس 5 درصد، نقره 4 گرم در تن، آرسنیک بیش از 100 گرم برتن و روی 759 گرم برتن اندازه­گیری شده است. بررسی سیال­های درگیر در کانی کوارتز نشان می­دهد که دمای همگن­شدگی سیال­های درگیر بین 188 تا 365 درجه­ی سانتی­گراد و مقدار شوری از 5/14 تا 2/18 درصد وزنی متغیر است. داده­های دما و شوری نقش فرآیند آمیختگی سیال با دما و شوری بالا به (احتمال بسیار ماگمایی) را با سیال­های جوی با دما و شوری پایین­تر را در تشکیل ذخیره معدنی نشان می­دهد. نوع دگرسانی و گسترش آن، بی­هنجاری­های زمین شیمیایی، گستره دما و شوری، موقعیت زمین­شناسی، سنگ­شناسی و کانی­شناسی نشان می­دهد که کانی­سازی منطقه اکتشافی زردکوه می­تواند نشانگر بخش پسین یک سامانه از نوع مس- طلا پورفیری باشد.
