امکان تغییر ترکیب کانی‌های رسی در زمین‌های بایری که به کشت مداوم نیشکر اختصاص یافته‌اند، وجود دارد. از این رو در این، ویژگی­های کانی­شناسی نمونه­های خاک نیمرخ­های حفرشده در چهار مزرعه با سابقه کشت بیش از 15 سال بررسی و با زمین­های بایر همسایه آنها و مزارع زیر کشت تناوبی مقایسه شد. نتایج نشان داد که کانی‌های منبسط شونده در افق Ap خاک‌های کشت شده بر خلاف زمین‌های بایر فراوان هستند ولی مقدار آنها در افق C این خاک­ها کم است. همچنین در لایه‌های سطحی خاک‌های کشت شده، مقدار پالیگورسکیت نسبت به خاک بایر کمتر است. این تغییرات در خاک زیر کشت نیشکر در مقایسه با کشت تناوبی به‌دلیل تفاوت میزان آبیاری، زیست توده تولیدی و نیاز غذایی غالباً بیشتر است و کشت متراکم و آبیاری سنگین در دوره کشت باعث دگرگونی کانی­ها و در نتیجه تغییر عوامل دیگر از جمله نیازهای عناصر غذایی خاک می‌شود.
