ذخیره مس لپه­زنک، در 15 کیلومتری شرق تهران و بخش جنوبی پهنه البرز مرکزی واقع است. واحدهای سنگی رخنمون یافته در گستره این ذخیره شامل یک توالی از سنگ­های آتشفشانی و آذرآواری (بازالت، آندزیت، تراکی­آندزیت و توف­ داسیتی و شیشه­ای) مربوط به سازند فجن به سن پالئوسن­- ائوسن پیشین هستند که با توده­های آذرین نیمه عمیق با ترکیب میکرومونزودیوریت- گابرو قطع شده­اند. کانی­سازی مس در این ذخیره، به صورت رگه-رگچه­های کوارتزی (کربنات و باریت) همراه با دگرسانی­های سیلیسی، آرژیلیک، کربناتی و پروپیلیتیک در سنگ­های آندزیت – تراکی­آندزیت رخ داده است. ساخت­ها و بافت­های رگچه­ای و برشی در کانسنگ­ مس­­دار این ذخیره بسیار رایج هستند. کانی­شناسی کانسنگ ساده و شامل کانی­های اولیه پیریت، کالکوپیریت، مگنتیت، هماتیت و روتیل است که با کانی­های ثانویه چون دیژنیت، کوولیت، مالاکیت و ترکیب­های هیدروکسیدی آهن همراهی می­شوند. بررسی میانبارهای سیال برای کانی­های کوارتز و باریت­ موجود در کانسنگ­ مس­دار و رگه­های باریت نشان می­دهد که بیشتر میانبارهای اولیه از نوع دو فازی غنی از مایع (L+V) هستند. بر پایه بررسی­های ریزدماسنجی، دمای همگن شدگی میانبارهای اولیه در کوارتز و باریت به ترتیب 100 تا 198 و 110 تا 207 درجه سانتی­گراد است. شوری در میانبارهای اولیه این دو کانی به­ ترتیب گستره تغییراتی از 88/0 تا 55/8 و 96/4 تا 86/7 درصد وزنی معادل نمک طعام را نشان می­دهد. بر اساس نتایج ریزدماسنجی میانبارهای سیال، سردشدن و رقیق­شدگی سیال­های گرمابی با آب­های جوی دلایل اصلی نهشت کانی­ها در ذخیره مورد بررسی هستند. نتایج بررسی­های زمین­شناسی، کانی­شناسی، دگرسانی و بررسی میانبارهای سیال نشان می­دهند که ذخیره لپه­زنک بیشترین شباهت را به کانسارهای نوع فراگرمایی سولفیدشدگی پایین - متوسط دارد.
