منطقه افسو در شمال شرق ایران واقع شده است. در این منطقه سنگ آهک و شیل به عنوان سنگ میزبان اصلی کانی­سازی همراه با سنگ­های آذرین از نوع مونزونیت و واحدهای آذرآواری رخنمون دارند. کانی سازی باریت و گالن بیشتر به صورت رگه و رگچه درون سنگ آهک و یا مرز شیل و سنگ آهک رخ داده است. گالن با رخ­های مثلثی شکل خمشی و باریت با ماکل­های فشارشی و چندریخت دیده می­شوند. بیشترین مقدار اکسید باریم 4/57 درصد، اکسید استرانسیوم 8/4 درصد، اکسید سرب 3/3 درصد، اکسید مس 1/2 درصد و اکسید روی 1/0 درصد در کانسنگ دربردارنده باریت و گالن گزارش شده است. تمرکز عناصر خاکی نادر در باریت و گالن با تمرکز این عناصر در سنگ­های منطقه متفاوت است. مجموع کل عناصر خاکی نادر در نمونه­های باریت منطقه مورد بررسی بسیار پایین و حدود 1 تا 8/1 گرم در تن است که می­تواند نشانه تبلور از شاره­ای با فاصله بسیار از خاستگاه خود باشد. پایین بودن مقدار Al2O3 و بالا بودن مقدار Sr نیز نشانه­ای از خاستگاه شاره­های کانه­زایی نوع گرمابی دما پایین در این کانسار است. مقایسه الگوی پراکندگی این عناصر با الگوهای ارائه شده در سطح جهانی نشان می­دهد که بیشتر نمونه­ها در گستره باریت­های برآمده از شاره­های گرمابی با دمای پایین جای می­گیرند.
