معدن باریت تلخابوند در شرق بجستان، استان خراسان رضوی، و در شمال غربی بلوک لوت قرار دارد. زمین­شناسی منطقه شامل سنگ­های دگرگونی ژوراسیک، سنگ آهک، توده­های نفوذی و واحد اسکارنی کرتاسه و واحدهای آتشفشانی ائوسن است. کانی­سازی باریت به شکل رگه­ای و با روند بیشتر شمال­غربی–جنوب­شرقی همه واحدهای سنگی منطقه را قطع کرده است. کانی­ها شامل باریت، کوارتز و کلسیت همراه با مقادیر جزئی پیریت­های بیشتر اکسید شده و گالن و کانی­های ثانویه گوتیت، لیمونیت، کوولیت، مالاکیت و آنگلزیت هستند. ناهنجاری مثبت La و Gd و به شدت منفی Ce (5/0- تا 27/1-) و مقدار Ce/La کمتر از یک (05/0 تا 55/0) نشان می­دهد که باریت­ها در محیط آب دریا تشکیل شده­اند. البته شواهد صحرایی این موضوع را رد می­کند. غنی­شدگی خاکی نادر سبک/عناصر خاکی نادر سنگین (LREE/HREE) در باریت­ها نشان دهنده وجود یک سیال غنی از کلر است. دمای تشکیل کانی­های مختلف معدن تلخابوند بین 138 تا 390 درجه سانتیگراد است و از محلولی شامل نمک­های NaCl و CaCl2 با درجه شوری بین 5/7 تا 8/15 درصد وزنی بوجود آمده­اند. نتایج نشان ­می­دهد که محلو­های غنی از  باریم و سیلیس نخست از آب ماگمایی ناشی شده­اند. افزایش شوری سیال کانه­دار در مراحل پایانی به دلیل اضافه شدن آب­های حوضه­ای شور به محیط است. براساس شواهد زمین­شناسی، کانی­سازی، زمین شیمی اکسیدهای اصلی و عناصر خاکی نادر و بررسی سیال های درگیر، کانسار تلخابوند می­تواند از نوع باریت گرمابی باشد.
