در این پژوهش، نانوذرات نیمرسانای اکسید روی آلاییده با ناخالصی آلومینیوم (AZO) با استفاده از نمک اولیه نیترات روی و عامل کمپلکس ساز اتیلن گلیکول با نسبت مولی آلومینیوم به روی 0، 2، 4، 6 و 10 درصد به روش حلال گرمایی سنتز شدند. ساختار بلوری و ریختار سطح نمونه­های تهیه شده توسط پراش­سنج پرتو ایکس (XRD)، میکروسکوپ الکترونی روبشی اثر میدان (FESEM) و میکروسکوپ الکترونی عبوری (TEM) بررسی شد. نتایج پراش پرتو ایکس نشان داد که نمونه­ها دارای قله­های ارجح مربوط به صفحات (100)، (002)، (101)، (102)، (110) و (103) فاز اکسید روی با ساختار بلوری ششگوشی ورتسایت هستند. با افزایش تراکم ناخالصی، جایگاه قله­ها به سمت زاویه­های بالاتر جابه­جا می­شوند، اندازه نانو بلورک­ها روند افزایشی و ثابت­های شبکه روند کاهشی دارند. اندازه نانو بلورک­ها در گستره 51/17 تا 21/26 نانومتر است. تصاویر FESEM و TEM نمونه­ها نشان دادند که افزایش درصد ناخالصی آلومینیوم باعث افزایش اندازه دانه­ها و نانو ذرات شده است. گاف نوری نانوذرات در گستره 5/2 تا eV 79/2 است. با افزایش مقدار ناخالصی آلومینیوم از صفر تا 4%، گاف نوری به تدریج کاهش یافته و با افزایش بیشتر ناخالصی گاف نوری افزایش می­یابد. بررسی ویژگی های حسگری به گاز استون در نمونه­ی با 4%  ناخالصی نشان داد که بیشترین زمان پاسخ 60 ثانیه برای غلظت ppm 2300 و کمترین زمان پاسخ 42 ثانیه برای غلظت ppm 3600 است.
