کرومیتیت­های پهنه افیولیتی سبزوار به دو گروه غنی از کروم و غنی از آلومینیوم تقسیم می­شوند. در نمونه­های غنی از کروم، مقدار Cr2O3، As، S و برخی فلزات سنگین (Cu، Ni، Ag، Co و Zn) بالاتر از نمونه­های غنی از آلومینیوم است؛ در حالیکه در کرومیتیت­های غنی از آلومینیوم مقادیر SiO2، Al2O3، TiO2 و سایر عناصر کمیاب بیشتر است. مقدار عناصر گروه پلاتین (PGE) در نمونه­های غنی از کروم بیشتر از نوع غنی از آلومینیوم است و با افزایش Cr2O3 بر مقدار PGE افزوده می­شود. الگوی PGE بهنجار شده نسبت به کندریت در کرومیتیت­های غنی از کروم ظاهری تفکیک یافته (25/0= Pd/Ir) با شیب منفی و غنی­شدگی عناصر (Ru, Ir, Os) IPGE نسبت به (Pd, Pt, Rh) PPGE (به طور متوسط 22/6 = (IPGE/PPGE نشان می­دهد؛ درحالیکه کرومیتیت­های غنی از آلومینیوم الگویی تقریباً یکنواخت (9/1 = Pd/Ir و 88/2 = IPGE/PPGE) دارند. شیمی عناصر گروه پلاتین در کرومیتیت­های غنی از کروم نشان از تشکیل آنها در جایگاه­های کمانی و در نتیجه ذوب­بخشی درجه بالا (مذاب بونینیتی) دارد. در مقابل، نمونه­های غنی از آلومینیوم از ذوب­بخشی درجه پایین (مذاب تولئیتی) در یک محیط کششی (پشته­های میان اقیانوسی یا حوضه­های پشت کمانی) تشکیل شده­اند. نتایج به دست آمده از داده­های PGE در کرومیتیت­های سبزوار با نتایج برآمده از شیمی بلورهای کرومیت در این نمونه­ها همخوانی دارد.
