کانسار منگنز هلالان، بر نوار آتشفشانی- رسوبی ترود – چاه شیرین و بخش شمالی پهنه ساختاری-رسوبی ایران مرکزی واقع شده است. سنگ‌های رخنمون یافته در منطقه شامل مجموعه دگرگونی با ترکیب سنگ‌شناسی اسلیت، فیلیت، شیست، مرمر، آهک، دولومیت و ماسه‌سنگ‌های کمی دگرگون‌شده با سن ژوراسیک پیشین هستند. کانه‌زایی منگنز به شکل چینه‌سان (لایه­ای و عدسی شکل) و هم‌روند با لایه‌بندی رخ داده است.کانی‌های اصلی تشکیل دهنده ماده معدنی بیشتر پیرولوزیت، پسیلوملان، هولاندیت، براونیت و هماتیت هستند. ساخت­های توده‌ای، لایه­ای عدسی و نواری، و بافت­های دانه پراکنده، پرکننده فضای خالی و جانشینی مهمترین ساخت و بافت ماده معدنی را تشکیل می­دهند. دگرسانی­های موجود در منطقه شامل کلریتی، آرژیلیتی، سیلیسی و کربناتی هستند. بر‌اساس بررسی­های زمین­شیمیایی، بالا بودن نسبت‌ Mn/Fe و پایین بودن مقادیر فلزات کمیاب و به ویژه عناصر Co, Ni و Cu و بالا بودن مقادیر Mn, SiO2 و Fe به عنوان شواهدی از غنی‌شدگی و تخلیه Mn از سیال­های گرمابی زیردریایی (بروندمی) در این نهشته هستند. این شواهد گویای این است که کانسار منگنز هلالان با دو سازوکار؛ غنی‌شدگی در آب دریا توسط سیال­های گرمابی– بروندمی و ته‌نشینی در شرایط رسوبی دستخوش تغییرات پتانسیل اکسایش - کاهش (Eh) و pH در محیط دریایی تشکیل شده و یک کانسار آتشفشانی- رسوبی است. با توجه به بررسی­های انجام شده، کانسار منگنز هلالان بیشترین شباهت را با کانسارهای منگنز نوع کوبا نشان می‌دهد، با این تفاوت که کانسار منگنز هلالان دستخوش یک فاز دگرگونی در حد رخساره شیست سبز نیز شده است.
